Unless you are a webmaster or attentive to the developments in SEO there is a very real chance you do not know of "Big Daddy", but Big Daddy definitely knows about you –or at least your website. Google's latest update is impacting directories all over the world. Described by Google as not a mere algorithm, but a 'major infrastructure update', Big Daddy (satirically referred to on some bulletin boards as 'Big Brother) seems to be an oddly appropriate name for a Google update which sent the SEO and web development world into total uproar over the ranking and indexing of their directories post Big Daddy; that is if one considers the explosion of webmaster bulletin board activity on that topic since the updates implementation. So intense and rapid was the discourse come mid-March that Google engineer and self-appointed webmaster liaison, Matt Cutt, advised Google to set up a team to address the 'supplemental' problem faced, for no clear reason.

For this to make much sense for us less specialized folk, some rudimentary knowledge the Google search machine is required. At its most basic, Google serves an indexing and categorizing function so that when people search for something, certain algorithms have already determined (are always determining) where they will take the viewer to look. This indexing is performed by the Googlebot 2.1 and the Mozilla Bot, both of which 'crawl' directories while applying content-analyzing algorithms to web content and code. These algorithms determine, among other things, which directories go into the main index (which is where you want to be) and which into the supplemental index, referred to in webmaster jargon as 'Supplemental Hell' since not only does it exclude its contents from searches, but is notoriously difficult to escape once thrown in.

The functionality of a special corner for inactive websites, spam sites, and other nuisances extant on the web is clear. The current problem and essential source of confusion, however, is that active, original, and non-spam directories, post Big Daddy, are being cast into the supplemental flames for no apparent reason. As one of the many people to comment in response to Matt Cutt's 'Gone Supplemental' blog post of March 22, 2006, "Our site has been redesigned…If I do a search…most url's are from our old site marked as supplemental results. Google is hardly indexing our new site…" And the problem was not limited to just one directory here or there, but thousands around the world, as the following comment, one of many, indicates. "I have a site with 4 sub domains including www. All of them have active content…all of them are supp and I do not see any return at all nor is google heavily crawling them. We are talking about 300k+ pages in the supp index for some reason."

If it has not occurred to you to do so yet, it may be a good idea to see where sit your directories post Big Daddy. 6. A hammer. Hang things on the wall, close up a paint can securely, or pound in stakes so your kids can camp out in the backyard.

7. An electric drill. You can keep it pretty basic, but a drill can save lots of time. Buy one that has a screwtip adapter also, and you can drive in screws much faster than with a manual screwdriver (and with less stress on your wrist).

8. A first aid kit. Don't own a home without one. If you're a first timer with any of the rest of the tools, you can put this to good use when you pinch yourself with pliers, or cut yourself on a fast retracting tape measure.

Beware of the Fluff. They seem like great companies, they have a good sales pitch and their compensation plan looks good too. They have big corporate offices and have been around for years. Isn't that good? Any company out there that sells products like lotions, potions, pills, miracle juices or miracle gas saving products usually doesn't work for the average person for many reasons.
Those companies usually make most of their money from you, the distributor, not from selling the products. They have you on auto ship, so you are their income.
They only pay about 2% to 15% so many levels deep. They will tell you that when you fill the matrix, you won't have to do anything and you'll be making 20 to 40k a month. The truth is, there are so many loop holes to their compensation plans that no body ever reaches those levels. You either will have too many people on your left, but not enough on your right side to make the higher level payouts. They tell you that you need more personal volume and your group volume is fine or vice versa, or my favorite, you had fallout this month, so you no longer qualify for that car bonus we promised you.
They make you hold home parties to push your crap on your friends. Listen to me…..If I wanted weight loss, I'd go to GNC. If I wanted Lotions, I'd go to CVS, Save on, Nordstrom or Bullocks. If I wanted to put additives in my gas tank, I'd go to Kragen, Chief or Pep Boys and buy a product from STP or Penzoil. You get what I mean….?
They are a copy cat company of the original company. How many companies out there are selling a juice that is based from the Acai Berry, Goji berry or the Mangosteen fruit? How many of those promise to cure cancer? What a joke? Is our society that ignorant that if something actually cured cancer, wouldn't we want to check it out? How many travel companies are there now? How many fuel additives are there now? How many of those have been shut down? How many make up, skin lotions and vitamin companies are there out there?
It just seems like there is so many junk companies on the internet, how do you what is good and what is not? Some of these companies above actually have a good product, but I would never go in business with them.
So, how do I choose a  business that I can profit from and that I can be proud to represent?
When I evaluate a company, I look for these key points. Keep in mind, when I join a company, my #1 goal is to make money and to do it legitimately. I do not want to hurt anyone or rip anyone off. This is what I've learned and these guidelines will help you determine what company is right for you.
If you are not making at least 75% of the upfront commission when you make a sale, forget it. This means that you are doing all the work and the company and/or the person above you is making all the money.
If you have to have 1000, 10,000 or 20,000 people in your organization before you make any real money. DO NOT Join. Most people will NEVER get there.
If they teach you to hold home parties and invite all your friends. Run away fast.
If they have a sales pitch 2-3 times a day and only 2-3 training classes per week. This means that the company is more interested in selling you than training you.
If you can't break even or get into profit with 3 sales, forget it.
If you can't speak with the owners or the corporate office via phone or webinar,  Forget it. I like to know who I am doing business with before I will do business with them.
If it is a start up or in pre launch, forget it. The chances of these companies becoming the next Amway is about as good as winning the lottery. At least with the lottery, you have a chance to win once or twice a week. You might as well go to Vegas and blow your money on a good time. At least you'll have some great memories, see a great show and have a great meal.
These are not all the rules for success on the internet, but this is a great guideline to follow when evaluating an internet company.

When it comes to advertising, I've tried just about everything. I tried free classified ad sites, I tried FFA sites, I tried banner exchange programs.
The results? Not much.
I was tired of hearing that the Internet is the largest market in human history. Maybe so, but how could I reach those millions of people?
The answer, I discovered, is ezine advertising.
Ezines are sometimes called 'opt-in' lists because everyone who receives an ezine has chosen to do so.
And that's why ezine advertising gets results. People read ezines and they'll read your ad. And if you've matched the ezine to the product you're selling, you've reached your target audience.
There are currently around 90,000 ezines being published every month. So whatever you're selling, there's more than likely an ezine that will take your ad straight to the audience you want to reach.
Ezine advertising is not only effective, it's cheap as well. A 5 line ad in an ezine that goes to 3000 people will cost you between $5 and $20 per issue.
As a general rule, you'll always get back at least the cost of the ad, and usually much more. So there's very little risk.
But there are some tips for successful ezine advertising. Here they are:
1. The first and most important rule is: "Track your Ads!" Say you place an ad in 5 different ezines and get a hundred responses. If you don't track your ads, you won't know which ezines were pulling responses and which weren't.
But how do you track your ads?
Then, when you get a reply with 'ezineA' in the subject field, you'll know which ezine it came from.

4. Check to see how many ads are in the ezine. You probably won't get much response from an ad in an ezine that has 15 or 20 ads per issue. Readers of those ezines have become hardened to the ads and have learnt to skip them.
5. Check to see if the ezine publisher has a policy of never running ads for two similar products in the same issue - your ad will be much more effective if it's the only one of its kind in that particular issue.
6. Small ezines Vs. Big ezines: bigger is not always better. The big ezines with 1000's of subscribers tend to have more ads than the small ezines. Also, small ezines with only a few hundred subscribers often have a much more targeted audience than the big ezines.
7. Repeat your ads. Research shows that off the Web, an ad has to be seen about 21 times before someone acts on it; on the Internet it's about 9 times. If your budget allows, try and have your ad repeated at least three times in a particular ezine. Most ezines offer discount packages for bulk advertising.
8. Email address Vs. URL. The advantage of giving an email address is that it gives you the opportunity to send a powerful sales letter to the person who responded to your ad. It's also much easier to track your ads with an email address than a URL.
9. Offer something free in your ad copy. It'll often tip the balance between a response and no response.
10. Keep your ads short, even if you're not using the number of words you're allowed. Short ads are more likely to be read. Keep your sentences short too; they pack much more power. Use the word 'You'. Don't describe your product but tell the reader what your product can do for them.

Are you new to Network Marketing?

If you are, then one of the first things your sponsor or upline has probably already told you is that you will need to create a prospect list. I explain the reasons why you need to create a list of at least 100 names in another article I've written, called "Your #1 Secret Weapon".

Once you have written your prospect list, it's time to start approaching the people on your list with your business opportunity. Many people feel that you should just start calling the names on your list.

I have a different point of view. In my experience, I have found that once you have created your prospect list, it's time to do some "classifying."

It's important to understand that by classifying your prospect list, I am not talking about pre-judging, or pre-qualifying people for your business opportunity.

You should not prejudge people, as there is no way you can predict who is going to seize your network marketing business opportunity and use it to transform their lives for the better and who is going to do absolutely nothing with it, despite having shown all the signs of being a potential "hot" prospect.

Also, do not pre-qualify the people on your list. This happens AFTER you have presented them your business opportunity. People will then qualify themselves "in" or "out" of your business. Your job is simply to present them with information, then allow them to make an informed decision as to whether your business opportunity is right for them or not.

Classifying the people on your prospect list is different. You are looking for people that you believe are worth approaching first, because you instinctively feel that they make a great contribution to the growth of your network marketing team.

You will want to classify the people on your prospect list in terms of criteria such as:

Location - Can you drive out to meet them within, say, 45 mins to one hour? Or do they live interstate or overseas?

Character - Are they positive and open to new ideas? Are they coachable and can they follow a system? Are they people who take immediate action when they recognize an opportunity? Do they have a large circle of influence? Asking these questions will help you identify potentially good business partners.

Remember that, as the CEO of your own organization, you will want to recruit the very best team you possibly can find. Classifying your contact list will help you identify other individuals who share your values. I recommend building your "dream" network marketing team with people who have the qualities that you strive for and admire.

Other Criteria - Are there people in your prospect list who are currently involved in another Network Marketing company, or who have previous experience building a multi-level marketing business? This can either be a good thing, as they may already be open to the concept of Network Marketing, or not so good, if they received poor training and experienced lack of upline support in the past and now are carrying some negative feelings or misconceptions about the Network Marketing industry.

The same thing applies to approaching professional salespeople. Some sales-trained professionals may be open to the idea of Network Marketing once they realize that multi-level marketing organizations create their sales volume based on a lot of people using and recommending a little bit of product each, and some may not get the point of Network Marketing at all, preferring instead to continue earning sales commissions through the addition of their individual sales, instead of via the multiplication and leverage of a team of people working together!

 •  Divide your material into specific sections. These topics will be your lessons. I advise starting out with a day-by-day course rather than splitting your material into weeks.
 •  Write an introduction to the course and a list describing upcoming lessons.
 •  If this is a free course: make sure to weave subtle hints throughout about all of the information that they are not receiving to give them incentive to purchase something (anything!)
 •  Once you have written your course, set up an account with a sequential auto-responder company. Every company will have different instructions for set up, but basically you will be cutting and pasting and they will deliver the e-mails/lessons at the appropriate time.
 •  Promote and advertise your course on your website, and send out a notice to your distribution list: let people know about it any way you can.

That's right!  There is free software on the net like Mozzila for instance that you can download and use to generate mini-sites.

FYI, in most cases you can generate a site and have it up and making profits,
subscribers or driving traffic to one of your other sites, before a professional can place you on his or her schedule.

4) Mini-sites have a primary focus!  They focus on one objective — usually to call a person to act — to subscribe to a newsletter, click an order button, or click a link on a site referring them to a product.

The more narrow the focus the less confused visitors will be.  I know from experience and from hearing other marketers say, it is easier to keep the visitors attention and call them to act when we only give one choice at a time. 

Remember, there is great wisdom in this statement when you generate any website.

5) You can test headlines and sub-headers faster!  If the sites can be built quicker and easier, don't you believe they can be tested faster to see what works and doesn't work?  It sounds like a big "cha-ching" to me!

6) Mini-sites can be tested for search engine optimization quickly too!  You don't
have as many pages to go through— the fewer pages you create, the more time saved so you can do other things like write articles or create another site you can sell products or link to. 

As long as your sales letter and so forth has good content, Meta tags, descriptions, and keywords your site can be optimize more efficiently and get better rankings.

7) Mini-sites are so easy and quick to create you can generate many for different purposes!  I use them as a means to make different streams of profits and lists.  

Here is an example:  I may have 2 or 3 for the sole purpose of gaining subscribers to different newsletters describing the use of the products I'm selling, while I have 5 or 6 others that promote affiliate products or my own. 

I interlink them with each other and with other high-traffic sites making them more attractive to search engines. 

If you are tired of wasting time, energy, or money on your websites and want to make profits or get subscribers faster, try spending a one time fee on a good program that shows you step-by-step how to set up and use mini-sites.  It will be the best return investment you can make. 

Look at it this way, it can be like having your own energized bunny where you can create, and create, and create some more to serve whatever purpose you have in mind and not spend another dime paying other people to do it for you.

Authors do it for a number of reasons.

It is a good way to be picked up by the search engines.
The backlinks from your resource box can help your search
engine position.

Various products and services have become available that
help you distribute your articles to the 100s of article
directories and mailing lists.
a) Software that speeds up maunal submission, or can in some
cases do this automatically.
b) Services that distribute articles in your name

their own name.
The Double Edged Sword
Many people pay a premium rate for article distribution on
their behalf, without the worry of having to join various
article directory sites as a member, giving their own email
address, and receiving lots of emails from various Yahoo
groups.
Unfortunately what they don't realise is that often this
devalues their work.
1) In the author section on many sites, the name of the
distribution service will be shown, not that of the original
author.
2) Author sections of many article directories are a unique
marketing venue. Many visitors will visit the author profile
before reading an article all the way to the bottom. Most
profiles could have one or more websites listed.
3) Within RSS feeds from the article directories, the
distribution service might be shown in the byline, not the
original author.
4) Many article directories allow an author to change or
modify their resource box. If an article was submitted using
an account owned by a 3rd party distribution service, that
avenue will be closed.
Complete Control
For authors who want complete control of their branding,
either submit manually, or use article submission software.
You will receive more emails, but can always have a special
email address for this purpose. Googles Gmail service I find
is an excellent choice.
Article Announcer and Article Submitter Pro are two examples
of such software.
Limited Control
Use an automated submission service that ensures you are the
author. There are services that signup for members to
directories on your behalf, using a username and password of
your choice.
One such service is Article Marketer.
The Inconvenience
You will have to confirm your membership to many
distribution points, and some will continue to send emails
containing articles from other people. Yahoo groups normally
allow you to select a digest mode, or to not receive emailed
articles at all.
Most of this is a one time effort, although you will have to
be on the lookout for important messages on the email
account you use.
The Massive Gain
They are your articles, and you should gain maximum benefit
from them.
Using article distribution is much like a varient of
Pareto's 80/20 rule. You potentially gain 80% effective
results compared to manual distribution, for 20% of the
work.
However if your method of article distribution doesn't give
you all the possible credit for your articles, rather than
80% effectiveness, you might only be getting 60% or less.
Managing your own article distribution with tools
such as Article Announcer or Article Submitter Pro gives you
complete control to achieve your 80/20 goals.
A service such as Article Marketer which gives you full
credit, and reasonable control, might be 70% effective, for
10% of the work.
Refining your processes, and only using the most effective
method where it benefits you the most, you can maximise your
return for the work invested.
I use a combination of service and software for my own
distribution.

Article marketing is still a great way of getting recognition on the Internet. Indeed my own name is found several times in Google and a great deal of this was due to submitting articles to article directories. I have yet to optimize this method of marketing but will do more so this year.
Here are ten great reasons you should write and submit articles to article directories:
1. Publicity - People will know that you write and may even seek out your expertise on the subject that you write about. This is of course tied into credibility.
2. Credibility - You will be seen as an expert in your field if your articles are mainly about a certain field, make sense, and contain timely and relevant information. As an article writer you may get special treatment by these new article directory owners and get them to create a category just for your expertise.
3. Branding - You will brand yourself and your website so that people looking for information on a certain topic can easily find it on a publicized article directory. If you have several articles you can quickly become a top author at the new article sites.
4. Ezine Exposure - Ezine publishers may be looking for an article in a certain niche and go to these article directories in order to find an article in that niche. If you've given permission for the article to be published then it may be publicized before you're even aware of it being published.
5. Blog Exposure - One of the biggest crazes these days is blogging. Many people are using blogs to express interest in a certain niche. One of my own niche interests is alternative health and I have four blogs each concerned with a different "sub-niche" in this area. Bloggers can either print your article in full in their blog or link to the article in the article-directory.
6. RSS - Many article directories today offer RSS feeds for each of their categories. Someone with a website may need niche content for the particular area that their website is about and run that feed on their website. New article database owners are going to be promoting heavily to get their sites growing so they are going to be taking advantage of this technology.
7. Mainstream Publishing - Editors of mainstream print publications such as magazines and tabloids within a certain field of interest may be impressed by your article and offer you payment to write articles just for their publication.
8. Archiving - Your article is always in the directory and available by category or author search. This makes it easy for publishers and others to find articles that you have written.
9. Website Exposure - When someone chooses to read your article or to print it on their website your URL is published for anyone reading the article to see, and of course, the most important reason which is marketing strategy.

Meta Tags-Although they used to carry much more weight, meta tags should still be optimized as a part of basic on page search engine optimization. Every web page on your web site should contain a unique meta description, along with several meta keywords which describe the content of the web page. SEOs should avoid "stuffing" meta tags. Stuffing meta tags is the practice of using tons of meta tags on one page. Although this used to be considered a "Black Hat" technique, it is now nothing more than a foolish attempt at improving your search engine ranking.

Header Tags-H1 and H2 tags should be optimized in the same fashion as the meta tags. If possible, the header tags should be slightly different than the meta tags. However, they should still contain the same important keywords that you want your web page to rank well for.

For example, you may be passionate about Sports, for which there are plenty of websites. But you need to dig a little deeper and find out what exact sport niche you want to get into. You may have a particular interest, in golf for example, so this is the market you would search for suitable products to broker for.

Trick Three: Next, by using search engines and Directories find a web site that has a two-tier affiliate program for the product you are looking to broker. A two-tier affiliate programme has the first tier of commission the same as in a regular affiliate program. The difference is the additional tier(s), whereby marketers also earn a commission on sales generated by people they referred to the program. A best two-tier program will be one that:

·Offers better than $10 commission per second tier sale.

·Provides the marketer with ready to go marketing materials like email promotions, articles, adverts, banners etc.

·Has cookie tracking system for their affiliate program, which means that even if the marketers you try to broker deals with don't sign up on the day you contact them, but sign up months later, you will still get the credit for the sales they make months down the line.

Trick Four: Is to build up a list of website domain names related to the products in your niche market saving the list where you can easily locate it.

These are potential site owners that you will be able to approach and broker a deal with. These are your marketers.

Trick Five: Using the Google search engine type in "(your niche market) ezine" to find thousands of sites, in your niche market that have ready-made email lists to promote to. These will be sites that publish, or are linking to another site that publishes, an ezine in your niche market.
These are your marketers.

Trick Six: Start going through your lists from tricks four and five and emailing the website owner or ezine publisher/owner trying to broker deals getting them to promote the site you are brokering for. This trick in itself would take you months to broker all the deals available, yet each and every deal could be worth hundreds if not thousands of dollars to you.

Trick Seven: You have now learned THE trick of making money on the internet without having your own product to sell, or without having your own website, or even without having any contacts or doing any marketing whatsoever.
